Planning permissionThe planning process is often something that puts people off making alterations to their home but it doesn’t have to be difficult. Solid Installs can help you with all aspects of the planning process

At Solid Installs we can take away the worry and the hassle by managing the whole process for you, including the application for planning permission and working with the local authority.

We are often asked whether or not planning permission is going to be required. As a general rule on standard extensions, loft conversions, alterations and extensions on the rear of properties, planning permission is usually not required. However, when the building work is going to change the outward appearance of the front of the property, then planning permission is more likely to be required. This is of course a general rule and it is essential to always check with the local planning authority before commencing work.

If you are looking at a complicated extension or alteration then it may require an architect to get involved. Solid Installs can work with the architects to come up with a full set of specifications and working drawings that can be submitted to your local council. A building inspector will come out to check works at relevant stages and a certificate will be issued after final inspection.

We can also advise on whether just a building notice is sufficient. Building notices are a quick way to get work under way and are good for standard extensions, structural alterations and conservatories. The fees to your local authority are the same as full plans and the inspector still checks work, as with full plans, but does not require any drawings. This could save a lot of money on unnecessary architect bills. Solid Installs can prepare and submit a building notice to the local authority on your behalf.
